Letter from the Editor
Name: C.R. Veatch Location: Portland, OR Soon after moving to Portland we picked up a local indie rag who's name I never even bothered to read. It doesn't really matter. They all have the same overzealous journalism students too busy posturing to write anything worth reading except for when your waiting in a long line. Anyway, there was an article about the sudden influx of twenty somethings moving south of Foster Rd or "SoFo". So there ya go. | | Backwards Forewords The foreword and index to all the chapters of my being. | | Push Me, Pullman Or how I learned to stop worrying and hopefully love the Northwest. | | My Beards Blog How Long? How fast? For how long? | | Calling It Quits Although there are way better tracks from their latest and too be last album, this one reminds me the most of Portland and the Northwest.

| | From Crapper to Dapper Anytime you move into a home, especially one of considerable age, you'll likely encounter a “What were they thinking?” design decision. Such was the case with this master bathroom. From the dark chocolate countertop to the flowery linoleum with mauve vinyl baseboard this bathroom reeked of the eighties. Besides being an eyesore the cabinetry made it impossible for me to reach the shower. So one day Amanda got bored enough to take the crowbar and sledge hammer to it. - view after | | Can Cape Disappointment Live Up To It's Name? Yes. Oh wait. Did I just give away the thing then? I’ll start over. On the epiglottis of the spewing mouth of the Columbia River into the toilet of the Pacific Ocean lies Cape Disappointment. Have you ever been driving along a part of the Lewis and Clark trail and thought to yourself, “Where the hell does that thing end”? Well, this is it and they have the engraved boardwalk to prove it. They also have two lighthouses. One guarded by a canon and the other a souvenir shop. If you enjoy snorkeling in thrashing grey ice water this place will be heaven. But seriously for a 3 hour drive it's not a bad park and it was nice just to be camping again. - view photos

| | Daytrippin' Okinawa Just a penny on the dollar of the price of a ticket to Okinawa buys admission to the Portland Japanese Garden. This 30 minute walk takes you through a Japanese manucured garden and offers a great overlook to the center of Portland. McMenamin's oldest pub, Barley Mill Pub, serve's modern American pub cuisine in a Grateful Dead infused atmosphere. 6.5 - full review
Imbodé's mix of modern design with antique accents might not be my taste, but their mixed drinks certainly are. The Bloody Mary has garnishes galore and the Grape Crush is like alcoholic gatorade. 7.0
The Lucky Lab has a dog friendly covered porch and canine inspired collection of their own brews. 7.5 - full review |
